This Historic Brighton public house has stood on Western Road since the 1840’s.
Today it is a lovely modern taproom serving Harvey’s beers.
It also has four stylish en-stuite pub rooms, ideal for a short break in Brighton.
Rooms 🛏️
The rooms here are individually designed with costal / nautical artwork and most have original features, like fireplaces and sash bay windows.
They include king-sized beds, seating areas, mini kitchenettes, and well-equipped bathrooms with baths and walk-in showers.
It is worth noting, some rooms face Western road, a busy street, so there is sometimes street noise (especially on Summer weekends).

The Maris and Otter in Brighton serves tasty burgers, fries and other pub grub sides at reasonable prices.
Drinks, including Harvey’s ales and cocktails, are well regarded here.
They do not offer breakfast, however rooms are apartments and feature mini kitchenettes.

History 📜
Opening in the 1840’s the pub was originally called City of York, until 2005 when it became the Duke of Norfolk. It was briefly ‘The Revelator’ in 2016 and then refurbished and renamed in 2021 to ‘The Maris and Otter’.
According to the Brighton Beer Blog, the name ‘Maris Otter’ is a popular British malt which is used in most of Harvey’s brewing.
