Pub Rooms was the first website in the UK dedicated to pubs with rooms and Pub B&B accommodation.

Before the year 2000, pubs offering accommodation mainly catered for construction workers., however in the early 2000’s pubs & inns were changing their rooms to cater for the growing international tourism demand for pubs to stay in!

Now (2025) with over 2500 pubs and inns across the UK offering B&B, people are choosing to stay in a pub rather than a modern hotel.

The history of Pub Rooms

2001 – The start of Pub Rooms

It all started with Wendy Trahan from Canada, who looking for a pub to stay whilst visiting the Leeds Castle. Wanting something different and off the beaten track, she was surprised how difficult it was to find pub accommodation and pubs to stay in.

2002 – The first website

Wendy launched the pub-rooms.co.uk website, our directory which makes it easier for people visiting the UK to find pubs to stay.

2005 – Growing demand

By 2005 Pub Rooms was seeing over 10,000 visits a week (over 500,000 visitors a year) from travellers all over the world.

2007 – Shiny new website (Pub Rooms 2.0)

In 2007 Wendy handed the reigns of Pub Rooms to Andrew, a talented website designer and owner of thinkcloudstudio.co.uk . He adapted the website and added a dynamic search improving the static website. With it now being dynamic, pubs could update their room details directly.

2016 – Addition of function rooms

Despite various Google updates and a nationwide recession, Andrew continued growing Pub Rooms, expanding the number of chain and independent pubs listed while also adding pub function rooms.

2020 – Global pandemic

Pandemics – Lockdowns, Pubs closed! With worldwide travel bans, social distancing and vaccination passports the UK’s pub and hospitality industry was driven to near bankruptcy. Unfortunately over 2,000 pubs have closed since this period, 400 of which were listed on Pub Rooms.

2025 – Pub Rooms 3.0

In early 2025, Andrew handed Pub Room’s keys over to Jamie Womack, who redesigned the site and expanded the number of pubs listed.

He hopes to use the website as a platform to encourage more people to choose pub accommodation over regular hotels to supporting local pubs and protecting the UK’s pub heritage.
